Yep, the angle makes it fit in a Phytagorean 3-4-5 triangle. Here's an

Yes, it looks like you are correct. The new part appears to still have
9 holes, but the short end is shorter, as you said. Sorry for being
wrong! (It's a bit hard to see from those scanned catalogue images.)
