I have been using the Handyboard on an R/C vehicle platform with Hall Effect sensors as the wheel shaft encoders. I would like to replace the battery used on my handyboard with a 12V Lead Acid Battery, either 1.3 ah or 2.2ah. Someone has already taken the neccessary steps to relieve us of most of the work. Go to the HandyBoard HP's Software contributions and look into the directory of "kent". I think you're right. I used a transistor to drive the INIT with its emmiter and feed the TTL signal to the base. It seems to work fine now. :) You know what's funny, I tried using a CMOS chip (HCT) and it was able to drive the INIT signal. I figure (...) Hi, In the book "Mobile robotics -Inspiration to Implementation" the addition of a logarthmic amplifier to the o/p of a photocell is discussed. I hooked up the sonar to the +5 and GND on the HB and it wroked fine. I used TIC3 for Echo and pin 9 of 2nd Motor driver for INIT and GND for BINH I also hooked up the sonar power leads to the 9.6V unregulated motor power header! It also worked! (...) There will be a lot of IR radiation bouncing around and that can be problematic. Another IR detection technique is to use a camcorder, they are sensitive to IR light. this could also be a problem with the cable betw the interface/charger and the host computer. does the green led on the interface go on when plugged into the host CPU? if not, this is indicative of such a cable probl. however, the pwr light on the (...) Just to add a basic newbie note on receiver blanking that will have to be designed in if you build it yourself. A transmit pulse is a very powerful (relatively speaking) pulse. Hi, Can anyone tell me if I can use a 10V gel-cell battery rather than the 9.6V NiCad pack? I don't think the higher voltage should affect the board - it's just a little more work for the regulators. Firstly, 19.9v is a normal unloaded voltage from a 12v DC adapter. The reason: these common wall adapters are unregulated, and voltage output varies inversely to current. I haven't had any luck in getting the samples in the Interactive C 3.1b8 distribution to compile. I'm using a Mac and v1.2 Handyboard. (...) Well, I have mine hooked to a 12-channel GPS unit (the kind that has a DB-9 connector and a Cigarette lighter adapter for power, and no user interface at all). You need to get the CONFIG register to be set to 0x0c. If it is set to 0x0d, there will be memory conflicts. See the FAQ for an explanation. Try DL.EXE from the freeware DOS package.
