Have you considered the possibility that people may not have local
copies of the images they have uploaded? I would be the first to
admit that it is a bad idea to do so, but someone may have
accidentally deleted their local copies of some images.
For this reason, I think you have an obligation to notify the owner of
the images by e-mail before deleting them. In the meantime they
should be flagged as "to be deleted" but not actually irrevocably
removed.
Also, some items may be questionable, and after discussing it with the
owner of the images, you may change your mind. In such cases,
deleting the images would have been a big mistake.
Or at least, that you should keep backups so that people who notice
something missing can ask for you to supply the backed-up copy.

I think part of the confusion is that in the TOS of Brickshelf it states something to the effect of: "this site is for pictures of Legos and pictures generally of interest to the community" i think everyone (...)
