Not to hijack this thread back to the original topic of insulting one another...

But quoting Larry... since no one has responded directly to the original
issue of 'tomfoolery' across our shared border, I stand with the assertion(s):

That Americans have shovelled out more than they have received of insults
(but who cares) -- http://news.lugnet.com/off-topic/debate/?n=18350

That it is, indeed, the Americans who are the whiners--anytime someone
points out *any* area that could be improved, there is no end of flat-out
whining from Americans -- "My god no!  Don't take away our
SUV's/guns/private medical care/whathaveyou!  We'll start jumping up and
down and wave the constitution around and throw a tantrum until y'all go
away and stop bothering us with the truth."  You want a whiner?  Pat B and
his cohorts throw a tantrum anytime they feel threatened--"Y'all can believe
and do whatever y'all want as long as it's what I agree with!"

That Dubya's policies are moronic----there is no direct correlation b/w OBL
and Saddam, and going down his current path is moronic if stopping terror is
suppose to be our objective.

That throwing up a straw man arguement, "Well, what if it happened to
you!"--news flash John, Canadians died that day as well, Canadians helped,
and I might remind you--where were your planes redirected to?  Not that we
need, want or even think about getting any credit, but don't forget who has
always been your friendly neighbour.  Hi, I'm Canadian and I'm here to help you.

We grieve with our American sisters and brothers--that does not diminish the
realization that Dubya's policies can be construed as moronic.

So bring it back to the topic--This 'moron' news cycle is already fading
into a distant bad memory, but many Canadian papers, a la 'Letters to the
Editor' and private polling, have come out and said "Thank you, we agree" to
the aides gaffe.  And the further wonder--Jean C did not accept the
resignation of the staffer!  I am not embarassed to be a Canadian
anymore--at least somone is telling it like it is.

Dave K.

I spoke too soon on many fronts--

First

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?GXHC_gx_session_id_=398858554baf10e8&pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1038308579883&call_pageid=968332188492&col=968793972154

Gist is the aide handed in her resignation again, and this time JC accepted.

Quoteth from the article
"
Ducros apologized for her comment last week and offered to resign, but
Chrétien rejected her resignation at that time.

But in a letter of resignation to Chrétien today, Ducros wrote: "It is very
apparent to me that the controversy will make it impossible for me to do my
job."

Chrétien accepted the resignation, responding in a letter: "In your almost
four years as director of communications, you have served the government as
a whole, and me personally, with extraordinary skill and dedication."
"

Secondly, a more detailed retort from John in a previous post:

Quoteth John
"
I am not for silencing criticism, but I think that insults are not necessary.
How about *constuctive* criticism-- that's what I'd like.
"
and
"
Only that it was my whole point.  It was a cheap shot, and I was commenting on
how I am tired of cheap shots that are devoid of substance.
"

Well,

The aide was "speaking her mind" and the "devoidation of substance" is in
the eye of the beholder.  Her point, born out by the people she was speaking
with when the 'moron' word was overheard, quoted, and the media circus
ensued, was the same one that many other folks are making--that going after
anyone *not* OBL is moronic.  There is truth and substance to that point,
which makes her point neither a cheap shot, nor devoid of substance.
Further, it takes a little bit of guts to speak against Dubya at this time
and I applaud her, being in a position of power, for doing so.

I also applaud her for taking the high road and resigning.

So John, thanks for responding to the actual criticism.

Dave K

(...) The term "moronic" is patently condescending, thus making it indeed a cheap shot. Further, you may not agree with this logic: 1) Sadam has or is developing WMD. 2) Sadam is sympathetic to terrorist organizations 3) OBL is the leader of a (...)
