Lots of people make this assertion, or similar ones, and I can only say that
I must be extremely lucky in my experience with MegaBloks, because I've never
encountered problems like those you describe.
I'd estimate--without shame, mind you!--that I have as many MegaBloks as
anyone else on Lugnet, with one or two possible exceptions. I own well in
excess of 150,000 MegaBloks, and, since I'm as obsessive as the next AFOL when
it comes to sorting, I've handled every single brick while sorting them into
colors. Of that number, perhaps 3 bricks have shown manufacturing defects
such as poor molding or prohibitively excessive flash. I agree that some of
the older bricks lack airtight color consistency, and some of the transparent
pieces are a trifle loose-fitting, but statistically speaking my troubles with
MegaBloks are somewhere between remote and nonexistent.
In addition, I have the large Battleship MegaBloks model, and I am able to
lift its entire weight by the radar tower--this represents grip strength at
least equal to my experience with Lego.
I don't own any of the NASCAR models, since I have no interest in racing,
but I've seen the models assembled, and I didn't notice any variation within
bricks of a single color. Obviously, the MegaBloks colors don't necessarily
match Lego with photographic precision, but that's to be expected and, some
might say, commended! For that matter, I have a quite large box of MegaBloks
2x4 bricks of various shades of green. Considering that Lego is positively
miserly in its distribution of green bricks, I welcome a competitor able to
provide them.
Dave!
