Why are you opening 2 in the Bay Area, 2 in New Jersey (for a total of 3) and 1 more in Virginia (for a total of 2)? I can think of many other places in the US that need one more. For example: The Carolinas (Charlotte, Raleigh, or Columbia), Texas (definately needs more than 1), and Pheonix.

Contrary to popular belief, we do think about things in the most “success oriented” way. There are many reasons that I will not (and cannot) go into here for the reasons we choose one location over another. But new business ventures require a plan, and that plan is geared towards gaining the largest success. These plans, by definition, factor in a great many issues.

For instance, why not some of the areas you mention? Because there are better LEGO markets for us in other parts of the country. Tapping into those great LEGO markets is priority #1. (I notice you didn’t comment on the 2 stores in your area though ;) hehe). Once we’ve gotten the solid markets out of the way, then we can start to build up new/potential markets.

Why not one country versus another? Well, again, business planning. Some countries have a higher LEGO purchase probability. Some countries have LEGO stocked on shelves of toy stores in much much larger quantity than many of the large chains in America.

Why not Canada? Well, give us time. Why not your local home town? Again, give us time. The worst thing we could do is spend millions of dollars opening stores all over the place before we have a solid understanding of how to best run and market the stores.

I know it’s a lot to ask, but you have to trust that the people inside the LEGO Company aren’t dumb or ill-informed. They’re good, smart people doing the best jobs they can, and trying to succeed at everything they do.

I’m sorry if I seem a little frustrated by this.

Jake
