ps: Sorry about the somewhat negative comments I make here, but Im getting
fed up with the stereo type view of USA = the World that keeps getting in
the way of global Lego domination...
|
That has to be one of the most ignorant comments Ive read on LUGNET in a
long time.

I completely agree with Mark. I dont find anything ignorant in his comment,
the only one whos ignorant is TLC. All that Lego stores and S@H stuff is
like licking the candy through a glass for me.

Ok...Im starting to get a bit peeved now. Im taking a risk here... Everything
Im saying here is based on my education (engineering degree with minor in
business) and experience of working for different companies, especially those in
international business.
(gets out soapbox)...
Has anybody realized (or even thought) how LEGO is set up as a company? Has
anybody ever dealt with International business operations? Ever wonder why some
LEGO products are available in Europe, but not in the US, and vice versa?
Anybody ever think that LEGO just might run European operations under a
different group than America? Do your homework before you spout off. I
challenge anybody to run an international company--its quite hard, especially
with different languages, and different cultures affecting daily operations.
Did anybody read that post from a while ago about Jakes European Community
Development counterpart?
I once heard the following comments: The answer is easy...to understand the
question is the hard part. Understanding a problem before fixing it is the
key to finding the solution. These are two rules I try to live by.
Jake is based in the US, and as I see it...he does stuff for the US/North
America area (speculation). Im pretty sure he doesnt have much control of
what Europe does. Thats why Jake has a European counterpart (forgive me,
didnt do the research to find the name). Jake has no control of where a LEGO
store is placed--hes just trying to spread the word out to the community.
(Those are my assumptions, based on the fact I work in international business on
my primary job..Jake, feel free to correct or clarify my assumptions.)
Forgive Jake for trying to go above and beyond whats required of him. Any
company would be lucky to have an employee who has that attidude. So, Jake
decides to put up a note where new LEGO stores are going...and what happens? He
gets blasted....oh, way to go AFOL community! (Does A really mean
Adult...sometimes, I really wonder.... granted, I think about 99% of the AFOL
community is nice and supportive...maybe its now about, um...maybe 94% since
the gray color debate--which also wasnt Jakes fault, but somehow, seemed that
everybody blamed him as well..)
Jake, I dont know how you do it, but you must have developed very tough skin
over the past few months, because I know youve had to deal with a lot of slings
and arrows from the AFOL community. I, for one...support you and all your
efforts.
As for Canadian stores...well, Im sure some of the Toronto RTL folks can tell
you theres a LEGO Canada...maybe theres some issues that need to be worked out
between Enfield and LEGO Canada...I dont know, but as I said before--dont go
spouting off until youve done your homework.
Anybody care to imagine what the capital cost of a store is? How its going to
be paid for, and continue to keep operations going, plus continuing
shipping/delivery logistics infrastructure, and what happens to companies that
expand too fast--Ive seen a number of companies that expand too fast go belly
up rather soon. Given the history of last years financial reports...its
better to crawl than walk. Why does it sound like there are some AFOLs
throwing a tantrum when they dont have a LEGO store close by? Like any parent
caring for a child...patience is a key thing you must have. I recall that five
years ago, I think there were only about 2, maybe 3 LEGO stores? Now the US has
15 established stores, and with these new stores, somewhere around 22? Europe
has LEGO stores (I cant recall where they are or the exact number, but check out
the link Jake posted, one can figure it out, and its not as much as the US has,
but they are growing in Europe too).
And remember...you always catch more flies with honey than with water...(or
whatever that adage is). Being nice and respectable (and backing up your points
instead of ranting) will always get you a more beneficial response.
(hops off soapbox).
Ok, Im done. If you wish to reply, please try to display some understanding
first. Im getting really sick of illogical rants lately.

I DO appreciate the opening of more Lego stores. And most of all I DO like Lego! But, to (...) (20 years ago, 12-Jun-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)
