I haven’t been to the store at MoA, but I’ve been to the ones in the Chicago Area and they carry a number of things that other stores don’t.

Track (Straights, Curves, Points & Crosses)
All (Most?) the Train Sets (I seem to recall they even got a MyOwnTrain in recently)
Weird S@H Kits - Like the American Flag, or a Small Turkey set
During the Easter season, the Schaumburg store was letting people build an egg and then buy it. They had instructions out for 2 (or 4?) different eggs at a different price point.
Last time I was there they also had the Legends sets and the MOC sets.
Sculpture sets - Statue of Liberty, Darth Maul Bust

At least Target and Walmart, they clearance things out and you can get some good deals. The MOA store doesn’t receive any new sets faster than the local stores. For example, Kohl’s just had a buy 1 get 1 half off sale, so I was able to pickup some of the new HP sets cheaper. If the Lego stores did this kind of thing more often than just at Christmas, then YES, let’s get some more Lego stores!

The chicago stores had the X-Pods in stock before anyone else, in fact my local Walmart still doesn’t have them in stock. I think Meijers might, but I’m not sure.

Again, the Lego Store running sales, could present a problem with the major retailers. Also, just because you don’t care for the selection at the MoA store, doesn’t mean all the stores suck. The stores I have been to, have a pretty decent selection and I always want to spend more on pick-a-brick than I can afford.

So, I’m here to say, Let’s see more LEGO stores! Driving 90+ minutes to my closest one is cutting into my lego budget. ;)

Lastly, MOA store hasn’t even updated their scuptures for years. Get some new stuff in PLEASE! The only new stuff is created by the employees and displayed in some of the cases.

You could help with providing new creations. GFLTC worked out a deal with a store near them and was displaying a new creation every month. I will agree, rotating what sculptures are at the stores would be great, but I suspect that the cost wouldn’t justify the return on such an undertaking.
