as opposed to IRC even when all I want to do is talk, and not just
roleplay a character, is because of the caliber of people who tend to
hang out there. I've been on IRC a few times. NONE of those times have
I been impressed with the people who hang out there.

Hrmmm.  Interesting.  I guess, in a sense, you could say that our
private IRC network ends up having all of the chat benefits you
mention without the game aspect.

The game aspect is entirely optional, and is not needed or relevant for
a Lego chat. I would suggest that a talker would be sufficent (no
creatures or objects) as this would also be lighter on system resources.

I guess private IRC is more pleasant than public IRC? :)

The main draw for a talker over IRC would be that you can access it via
standard telnet - which is a lot simpler for most users as virtually
everyone with an internet connection has a version of telnet.

Because a talker is a kind of reality simulation - you have a character
and can wander around rooms etc, you do become more personally involved
in it. Which is why I thought it might suit LUGNET better, in my
(limited!) experience IRC is a bit more.. faceless? IRC is good at what
it is for, but for getting to know people individually and making
friends, I think a talker is a more suitable environment.

But that's just my opinion and I'll try out whatever is set up :)

Have Fun!
Richard
