design them 8 wide?"  What would be your response?

Hmmm... I'm going to come down on the other side from most of the posts in
this thread.  I'd really like to see Lego produce some 8 wide train models.
Personally, I build in 6, 7 or 8 wide.  I mix and match them on the same
train and I don't find that it is that wierd.  As you say, they all have a
similar profile.  I end up using the width that get me the look I want for
the model I'm building.

My biggest reason for wanting Lego to produce 8 wide models is the increased
realism and detail that 8 wides can provide.  I think you can pick up
sufficient detail in 8 wide to begin opening the door to the greater
population of model railroaders out there (and not just the die-hard Lego
ones like us!).

But either 6 or 8, I'll probably keep buying them.  I just think they have a
better chance of increasing their market if they start to produce more
realistic train models (as has already been stated).  Of course, they also
need to change their marketing strategy if they want to do this, but that's
another thread...

Would you care necessarily?  What if he/she also said,
"We're also going to offer
larger radius track curves, new points, DCC; eventually the works."
Would that influence your preference between 6/8 wide?

I think this would be great and would play into the strategy of opening the
market.  And a larger radius curve would be very welcome by me personally.
The 'curve-straight-curve-straight' method we all currently use to get wider
radius curves just isn't as pleasing to look at (it makes the trains 'jerky'
when they throught the curves) and it messes up the track geometry.

These things, especially the DCC, are probably not a big play to sell more
Lego train sets to children though.  They are more things that would help
the move to apeal the adult model railroading community.
