Ick. Worst possible solution, because it renders 30 years of Lego trains
unuseable. Changing power to 9V was in some ways bad enough, but changing
gauge is really bad. Yes, Playmobile has done it 3 times now, but Lego should
not copy there example. Besides which, there are both Gauge 1 and O gauge
systems available (somewhat anyway) that do that (hit-train/playtrain in O, and
LGB/Playmobile in Ga1).
An idea, would be a plain circular track setup, with "funny" (Emmett/Heath
Robinson) inspired loco, with 2 flatcars (16L, 4 wheel). Sell it at as _low_
of a price point as can be managed, like at the $100 range of the large sets,
rather than the $150 of the trains. If need be, make it a PUSH train-we haven't
had one since the mid 80's, and if you had the 9V track in with it, then a
conversion pack that costs $50 could be worked out-there is NO way that the
lego transformer/connecting wire costs _close_ to $50 for lego to produce, so
it should be possible to pricepoint a motor/powerpack/wire for $50 USD (my
figuring on the price is based on owning 2 rather more sophisticated model
railway packs, which didn't cost me more than $100 each...and I know they have
a bunch more circuitry in them than the lego pack)

| (...) Unusable??? Thought that was the beauty of LEGO (or have you *glued* all of your bricks?:-) What's so wrong with starting a new line? Nobody complained when they switched to 9 volt in 1991, and rendered all of the 12 volt stuff "usable". So (...) (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)

| (...) The major drawback to going smaller is that, if you scale back to 6 wide, you will alienate the minifig. They would become almost 7 feet tall (Remember, 4 wide is HO scale; 6 wide isn't much larger than that). But speaking of scaling back, O (...) (24 years ago, 10-Dec-00, to lugnet.trains)
