Ultimately, no, I suppose it doesn't much matter to me, as there'd still be the
issue of particular prototypes and genres. Personally I prefer 8W, and North
American prototype (or near to it). As long as the basics can be had, like
track, turnouts, motors, couplers, wheels, I'll be fine. Besides, it could be
argued that 6W is cheaper to the consumer than 8W might be. All the better to
hook newbies with heehee.

I don't think I'd develop a preference for width at retail either way. I'd very
much prefer if the current standards were kept as far as track gauge and
voltage, that way I wouldn't have to switch over to another standard to expand
my functional collection. Further to that, I would be thoroughly thrilled if
they were to develop more options within said current standards, like;
--different curve radii,
--perhaps a small package of different lengths of straight (for adjustments)
--nicer turnouts (similar in form factor to other "true" scales, i.e. with a
plain divergent route instead of the weird 'out-and-back' thing they've got
going on now)
--DCC would certainly be cool, but unless they come up with a really cheap
package I can't see it being a mass market item. :( I would likely buy it, but
I don't know if new or budget-restricted buyers would be interested. I fear
they might even be scared away, assuming that you have to spend $$$$ just to
run the trains. Kinda mixed thoughts on this one.

Again, doesn't really matter to me personally. A possible downside might be a
rise in prices or fewer items of rolling stock in sets. Wouldn't bug me but I
know it would bother many other AFOL.

Hey, as long as they don't mess with the current standard (gauge and voltage)
we can get along fine. :)
Add some radii and we'll get along even better!
The rumour (Fact? Not sure) of discontinued track elements has me a bit
unsettled. Gots ta get me some turnouts as soon as I can afford 'em. Hope it
won't be too late...
