I'll agree that many people don't have ready access to a soldering iron,
but the concepts are pretty simple and the plans for such "extensions"
to the RCX are available on the web.
I'm a software-type. Odds are 50/50 that I'll burn myself with a
soldering iron. But simple projects like these (and they are simple
given that someone else has figured out all the resistor values and
everything) are a lot of fun for me to work on (once the bandages come
off from the previous project :-)
