John, Melissa, & Mark,

Good points on pricing, all of them. But I stand by the US$29.99 pricing for
LEGO Sculptor, as I think it gives LEGO plenty of room for profit.

Pricing elements as a percentage of quantity per set multiplied by the cost
of the set is not the only means of determining value. Sets like the LEGO
Mosaic are a great example of how a HUGE number of elements don't have to
increase the overall cost of the set. In Mosaic, the price per individual
1x1 plate is just a little over a half a cent. LEGO makes a nice chunk of
change off of Mosaic, make no mistake: a) because it is ONLY sold direct,
and b) because they have a computer algorithm determine the quantities of
the sub-assemblies (bags of 90 1x1 plates). They don't bother with selling
individual 1x1 plates, and they don't really flinch at sending out another
bag of them to you if you complain that you were shorted.

As mentioned in a sibling thread to this, I would buy LEGO Sculptor if it
was plain boxed, like the other sculptures. I certainly don't need another
tub hanging around, but if the price exceeds US$29.99, I probably won't buy
too many.
