Yes, most excellent post, Richard.
On the classic brick front, though, I sent an email to Lego direct last week
asking for a Lego Sculptor kit. I suggested a set contained in a tub, like
the 3033, but the elements would ONLY in one color and would include plates
and tiles in addition to bricks.
The main "model" would be a Lego sphere, but the manual would be more of an
idea book than a manual. Also included should be a pad of Lego graph paper.
I recommended the basic colors to begin with: red, white, blue, yellow,
green, black, and medium grey. After that, they can move on to the more
exotic colors like orange, purple, sand red, sand green, brown, dark grey,
tan, etc.
I told them that I would personally buy at least two of each the day they
were introduced.
I LOVE the Arabian Nights concept, and that also kind of hints at an
Egyptian theme. They already have a mummy type thing with the Adventurers,
how about going back to the real timeframe?
A Roman or Greek theme would be AWESOME!

| (...) I think this idea is wonderful and has definite potential for an official set. When I bought the LEGO Mini Figure Sculpture (Set #3723), I was floored by the instructions for the hat, which minus the visor, is half of a sphere. I think putting (...) | (...) Great idea, but one potential problem: How could LEGO forecast how many of each color to produce? Personally, I'd love to get my hands on more of the 'earth tones' (brown, dark grey, tan, green, etc...) - but other people might be more (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)

| I believe the single color tub to be the most favorable for a SaH exclusive but on store shelves it would be a flop. It would take too much floor space and how would a store order? Would a case come evenly packed? Many giant retail stores won't (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)

| Speaking of which, does anyone have a rough concept of what 1200-1800 elements can build, sphere-wize? Does anyone want to take a swipe at a proposed element breakdown for LEGO Sculptor? (Perhaps an old one.) Instead of always commenting or complaining about what Lego should or shouldnt do with regards to its new or upcoming themes, how about we (the AFOL) offer some genuinely New (...) (23 years ago, 1-Sep-01, to lugnet.announce, lugnet.general, lugnet.dear-lego) !
