                                       ??? New Theme Proposal ???

                                                `Here’s an idea…
                                              (Perhaps an old one.)

Instead of always commenting or complaining about what Lego ‘should’ or
‘shouldn’t’ do with regards to its new or upcoming themes, how about we (the
AFOL) offer some genuinely New Themes/Systems that would be commercially viable.

Possible themes that would both sell well and gain our interests.
A -Top (5) Five List- of the best New Themes for Lego to look into for 2003.
Weather it’s a new theme, or an extension to an older theme, just propose
your top five choices and the reasons why!

-Top 5- New Lego Themes for 2003:

1) Fantasy/Monsters.
(Why; with the advent of Harry Potter the realm of the fantastic could be
further explored. Unicorns, Trolls, Flying horses, Goblins, Vampires.  Think
Legend. ‘the movie’)
http://news.lugnet.com/castle/?n=10230

2) Pirate extension
(Why; to further explore aspects of this dynamic genre. Perhaps a later
edition with more complex ships with actual working rigging. Think ‘The
Bluenose’ [Canadian Dime] )

3) Castle extension      [Vikings or Roman]
(Why; because there is soooo much history before 1000 A.E.  A Vikings theme
could have ships and Barbarians and a Roman theme could have Gladiators and
a Coliseum.)

4) Train/Town Super theme
(Why; because a renaissance of these two themes would attract quite a number
of parents who remember their old play sets! Plus this would satisfy all the
Train & Town people!)

5) Revolutionary Reenactments.
(Why; who wouldn’t want to raid the Bastille in the French Revolution. Or be
Mel Gibson in The Patriot fighting the American Revolution. Or Struggle in
the Russian Rev.)

                                      And so much more…

Ice Planet in 2003
(I'd really like to see this theme return, it has so much promise.)

Mongols or Arabian Knights
(Another Castle extension; perhaps this should be part of a Historical
System theme)

        ,’,’,’,’,’,’,SOO00oooooo, what’s in your Top 5 list?

         Sincerely,

Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

Nice Post! Something like this could really direct TLG towards a more marketable product. Cause the stuff produced now, with the exception of Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the RCX stuff, is really inferior. I actually like the Fantasy Theme aspect (...) (23 years ago, 1-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

For a new theme, I'd suggest the time of discoveries: ships, castles, innumerous different people. It's kind of a link between Castle and Pirates, circa 1450-1700. I have some national interest as well... ;-) And a whole lot of civilian buildings in (...) (23 years ago, 1-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I'd say more Holiday themes. Why not something like Columbus, or a thanksgiving, or maybe even some "forign" holidays (whats out there?). I like the pirtae idea though i'd love to see better ships! More castle stuff, like the Roman idea, how about (...) (23 years ago, 2-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I would like to see more realistic sets. I think models that look like somthing in real life would sell well. The Eiffel Tower, The Leaning tower of Pizza, The hollyweird sign etc. I personaly would like to see an 'Aircraft line' maybee one set (...) (23 years ago, 2-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I would like to see a Star Wars Podracer sub-theme with all of the podracers and their drivers. It might be interesting to have some sets like the hangar, the starting line, etc. (23 years ago, 2-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I would like to see some fully enclosed buildings from Lego in a Town/Train theme with hinges so you can open and close the buildings. They should also create some furniture for minifigs so live in comfort. Another kit I would like to see from Lego (...) (23 years ago, 2-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) Well I've seen this already done before, but here goes. And if LEGO uses any of my ideas I'll be sure to sue their funny faces! ;] 1) Ancient Rome (Castle sub-theme). Toss in a "superdetail" model or two of real structures as well, but that (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

Yes, most excellent post, Richard. On the classic brick front, though, I sent an email to Lego direct last week asking for a Lego Sculptor kit. I suggested a set contained in a tub, like the 3033, but the elements would ONLY in one color and would (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general) !!
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) Agreed. With the four sculptures that are out there, I think that this is a concept who's time has come. But I think the current sculptures are WAY overpriced, i.e. the 3724 Dragon is the closest in part count, and they have it priced at an (...)   Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) Ahem. My top 5. 5. Mongol Hordes. Cool new fur line helmets. Pointy beards. Mounted archers. Curved swords. Look out, Wall of China!!!! 4. DUNE. Minifig stillsuits. Hoppers and Harvesters. Saurdakar Legions. Baron Harkonnen Fat minifig. AND A (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) I'm sure most of mine would be mutually exclusive, but what the heck: 1. Lord of the Rings. Heck, Lego seems to be into the movie-tie-in theme, and this wedded to the Castle line is such a natural that I'm surprised it isn't a done deal. 2. (...) (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

A great book for LEGO theme inspiration is Martin Handford's book _Find Waldo Now_, which is printed and bound by L. E. G. O., Vicenza, Italy. (It's true!) I'd like to see an Aztec theme, and a Gold Rush Western subtheme. (23 years ago, 4-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) Oooo...oooh! I like this :)))) I always think and dream of all the possibilities too! My Five themes would be (yes, some will be what others have mentioned as I totally agree with them!)... 1, Mythology and Ancient History would be a total (...) (23 years ago, 5-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I agree with you (and many others) that Lego should do something about those horrible themes! It's more like Duplo that simple! Anyway, that was not what I would like to say. I like the idea of a Roman/Greek Theme. You could design beutiful (...) (23 years ago, 5-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) Definitely an Egyptian theme, as mentioned previously, in the actual timeframe. This would do best with a few new elements, as I'd want one set to be a big pyramid that opens somehow. I think roof bricks with hinges on them might work (...) (23 years ago, 6-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal??? ' The results are in!'

??? New Theme Proposal ??? The results are in! O.k. so because today is my day-off, and cause this is just plain fun, I've decided to compile a complete summary of the top new sets for Lego in 2003. (Am I the only one who thinks that TLG should (...) (23 years ago, 7-Sep-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.dear-lego, lugnet.year.2003)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

(...) My ideas for new themes would be... 1. Ancient- Roman, Greek, Norsemen, ect. 2. Monsters- Bigfoot, Yeti, Loch Ness, Hydra, Gorgan, Grendel 3. Industrial- steel mills, farms, power plants (nuclear as well as fossil fuel) 4. Giant (...) (23 years ago, 8-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
Re: ??? New Theme Proposal ???

I still want to see a Theme Park line, with roller coaster modular sets. :-) (23 years ago, 8-Sep-01, to lugnet.general)
