First, I have wondered how the community feels about the creation of
non-standard parts.  By this I mean parts that TLG has not created ( at
least not to my knowledge ).  For example, many years ago went I become
involved with LEGO sets which I purchased for my children and found that I
spent as much time "playing" as they did,  I always wanted to have a
universal connection part ( perhaps this is not the best description, but it
is the best I can think of at the moment ) which never seemed to appear in
any of the kits --- oops, I mean sets.  Having grown up building model kits
and doing a lot of kit bashing I used those skills to produce my own.
Taking two 1 x 1 plates, filling the hole side with putty, then sanding to
half thickness and lastly cementing the two halfs together I had the part I
wanted.  Now, it seems to me that with the LCAD package I could do the same
thing but on a wider scale and without the elbow grease.  What I wonder
is --- How does everyone feel about this?

I am totally opposed to this.  LDraw was started to model Lego elements and
that is what we have adhered to.  And as long as I have the watch, so to speak,
I will not knowingly allow fictitious parts into an official update.
I even have some misgivings about thinks like Scala, but since those are TLG
products, they can go in.
Needless to say, I am also opposed to "clone" products.

That said, you can make and use any part you want.

Second and last, does anyone have any idea why TLG has never ( as far as I
know ) introduced such a part.  My own idea is that it may deal with the
moulding process and the amount of resin in such parts.

Who knows?  But it sure would be nice if they did.

Aside from the questions this has inspired me to learn how LCAD parts are
developed with the goal of, at least, getting my home made part.

Go for it.
