I'm new to the whole parts update process.  Are the fixed parts
automatically included in the update?  The reason I ask is because the • new
version of 2447 looks hugely better than the old version when viewed • using
blended alpha instead of stipple transparency.  This means that • renderings
made with POV should look much better, and it definitely looks much • better
in LDView.

Currently, fixed parts are "automatically included", once the parts admin
(ie: me) checks over the changes.

And the fixed 2447 (the minifig visor) should look better with any
color/treatment.

This is true.  I just finished getting LDView's primitive substitution
working for the quarter sloped cylinders used on the bottom of the visor (I
finished the non-sloped cylinders over the weekend), and the results are
pretty amazing.  One thing I just noticed upon extremely close inspection,
though.

The four 1-4rin10 pieces that make up the angled bottom are at two SLIGHTLY
different angles, and furthermore one or both of them doesn't QUITE line up
with the bottom of the visor.  (The two making the outter half-ring appear
to be just above the inner half-ring at the front of the visor; they meet at
the back.  Since they don't line up with each other, they obviously can't
both line up with the rest of the visor, but I can't tell if one pair does
or not.)  It's definitely not worth pulling out of the update for, but I
thought you might want to know.

Also, while I noticed the problem first in LDView, I checked in L3Lab, and
if you zoom in far enough (2000%) it is visible there as well.

(...) Oops. My bad. The bottom of the visor is a slanted half-ring, with a 15inner/17outer radius. I constructed this by overlapping the 1-4rin10 p-files, and skewing the Y value to slant the rings downward toward the front. But I used the same (...) (24 years ago, 6-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)
