A traceroute is a command to find out what "route" a website takes over
the Internet from the server to your machine and vice versa. When I am in
the Netherlands at work, this is a part of my traceroute for ldraw.org
looks like:
----------------
7 400 ms 40 ms 40 ms par10.gv-pb.unisrc.net [194.151.248.13]

My connection travels from Unisource (Netherlands Internet connection),
to the KPN, to Amsterdam (Eqip), etc, to Denmark at Risoe.
To do a tracerout open a command (or DOS) prompt and type:
TRACERT WWW.LDRAW.ORG
If it fails, your PC (or Internet connection) cannot find the server (or
rather IP-address) of ldraw.org. If it does succeed, you should try again
to access www.ldraw.org in your browser. If it does not, try this
address: http://130.226.51.217. If everything else fails (and it does
occasionally with me too), open www.risoe.dk in your browser or
rishp1.risoe.dk (130.226.48.13) or risul1.risoe.dk (130.226.48.19). The
last two will be found, but give you nothing. Now your connection "knows"
the way to ldraw.org, because one of two of the last URLs knows where
ldraw.org is. These ar the Nameservers for ldraw.org.
That is it, sort of...
Greetingz...
