lots of interesting ideas here : ) here is the system I developed recently and its works for me. it goes thru a couple of stages. I prefer to sort by color first dumping the need to sort legos into one of the large boxes from the 5571 truck / dark (...) (25 years ago, 12-May-99, to lugnet.storage)

I use almost the same system: 1x2, 1x3 and 2x2 L plates 1x4 - 1x10 plates 2x2 - 2x16 plates 4x X plates, wings, etc. everything 1x1 (plates and full-hights) everything with no studs on it 1x2, 1x3 and 2x2 L bricks 1x4 - (...) (...) I sort by color and size. I store elements in the storage cases from 545 and 575 (those 6 and 9 compartment drawers using 16x32 baseplates as bins. As some other guys, I think the most appropriate way of sorting/storing the pieces (from the building point of view) is using a drawer system. Mine is from "port-bag" (an imported product so it must be available some other places, too). They are (...) (25 years ago, 11-May-99, to lugnet.storage)

Kevin Wilson (...) At the risk of sounding negative, these didn't work as well as I'd hoped. Perhaps I couldn't get the right ones - what I got were drawers/trays about 6-8" deep, 4" wide and about 3" high. They stacked so I tried that. It worked (...) (25 years ago, 11-May-99, to lugnet.storage)

If you do any graphics work at all and don't already have a good editor, PSP is a great choice. I use it a lot, and it is well worth the (...) Sorry for the off topic but: Oh yes the browser incompatibilities.... We develop websites and have noticed many flaws in BOTH browsers. They do not play well in the sandbox together when it comes to coding HTML, vbscript etc... I am using IE 4 (...) (26 years ago, 18-Mar-99, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.storage, lugnet.general)

a while back a little discussion started over in Lugnet.Storage about creating a little "Lego Inside" logo to make stickers out of and put on our storage systems... a take off of the "Intel Inside" logo... i hacked one together really quick.. heh eh (...) I started looking for Plano boxes my 'standard' way: contacting Planomolding by e-mail to know if they have distributors in Italy. Check out the StowAway line of boxes from Plano. After reading the discussion on this list (thanks to whoever first recommended them!!), I went out and bought a dozen from my local WalMart. As a general "life note to the wise": If they don't specifically TELL you that the item in question is acid-free/archival quality/whatever, IT ISN'T. And you would notice a price difference; i.e. the cheap card sheets as opposed to the UltraPRO (...) (26 years ago, 5-Mar-99, to lugnet.storage)

You can count me as yet another AFOL that "discovered" that Plano "tackle" boxes were *really* intended for Lego storage! The only thing I have to add to the discussion is that K-mart also sells some "milk" storage crates that perfectly hold these (...) (26 years ago, 28-Feb-99, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.storage)

My wife showed me a cheap way to get plastic storage bins for storing small parts. They're not as versatile as the Plano boxes, but a lot cheaper. In craft stores they sell boxes for storing embroidery floss for $1 or $2. They have 18 small (...) (26 years ago, 19-Feb-99, to lugnet.storage)
