A program as simple as: task main() { SetPower(OUT_A,7); OnFwd(OUT_A); } won't stop running after i hit the "Run" button on the rcx (1.5). Also, the little person in the (...) hi Lauren, you're quiet right, the inside of the RCX (in touch-sensor mode) is ok, and Ohm's law is also. So the problem lies probably in the sensor used. The cheap resistive pressure sensors are totally non-linear, more expensive sensors are full (...) (24 years ago, 6-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I have a Halogen uplight lighting a room and my solar cell will power a motor, with no load up to a distance of around '6 (3' work height) from the light pole. Dean, it's probably dumb luck that the two drives on the piece I'm working on have little slack. Yet, with LEGO beams and blocks you can't use every gear combination; there are published beam/block/plate combinations that let this or that pair of (...) There is one real simple way to eliminate backlash: Use LEGO's 'small-link chain' with their normal gears as sprockets. I paid CAN$7.00 for 135 links from Pitsco-Dacta's Canadian vendor. I have a few opinions on the lubrication issue: 1. I would be wary of anything water-soluble/organic as it might grow mold etc and perhaps start to smell. Leave some out for a week or two and give it the 'nose' test before using. 2. Even though (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

We are trying to implement advanced control strategies in RCX robots, as neural networks and fuzzy logic. But I think the NQC don't has what we need, as arrays (memory allocation) and aritmetic functions (sigmoid logist for example). Does any one (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I share your frustration and agree, they are by no means robots. Are remote controlled planes, boats and cars robots? I have watched BattleBots a few times but got bored with it for similar reasons. The unfortunate thing is that your typical couch (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Hello all- has anyone worked on a biped-type robot? I've got my class working on making a leg & hip system right now. They are making knees and ankles and gearing the hip to throw weight forward so that the robot walks. Any photos of existing (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

As this discussion grows, I submit: (that) Part of the problem with Mechanical flex, Gear "Backlash" if you will, Derives from many aspects when we model maximun preformance from Axles, Gears, and all the elements combined to produce desired (...) (...) I think a sub group for 'modifiers' is a good idea. I haven't cut up any pieces myself, broken loads, but never sawn any up. What I will admit to is strenghtening parts, particulary universal joints. I bind the ends with sellotape as the (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Explain 'Hmmm...' :-) I of course omitted the fact that my solution as described produces no mechanical advantage just a shaft going in the opposite direction. Of course, you can always replace the pair of gears on the second shaft with a pair (...) (24 years ago, 5-Apr-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)

(...) I was going to say this solution is easy, but then I tried it. There are only two shaft's in this example. As lego don't make don't make a 'double width gear' You'd have to use four to make it in lego. All you'd need is three normal 16 tooth (...) (...) Yes - NQC is developed on a Mac so PowerPC big-endian is actually where most of the testing is done, but I don't recall ever running into an endian problem. (...) I know of 1 type of zero-lash/anti backlash geartrain. It's hard to put it in words but I'll try. My example assumes there are only 2 shafts but it can be applied to as many shafts as you need. I would like to try using threaded nylon rods. Where can you buy them? I've only used steel threaded rods to restrain large axial forces (e.g. in a crane turntable).
