Well - wet climate, everywhere is relatively close to the ocean
and they salt the roads in icy weather. Wet, salty conditions
maximise corrosion rates. A new car can comfortably be rusted
out in 5 years
Contrast with Texas where the warm. predominantly dry climate -
long distances from the ocean and roads *sanded* but not salted
in winter...cars last forever. I have a 1972 VW Beetle with it's
original paintwork - no sign of rust *anywhere* - paintwork looks
like a new car...it's not even been kept in a garage for the last
12 years at least.
Result is that scrapheaps in Texas are full of cars with 150 to 200,000
miles on them - and worn out engines...scrapheaps in England are full
of rusted-out hulks with maybe 80,000 miles on them.
