To everyone who came in from out of town and stayed at a hotel,

Can you please list your expences for the weekend (in US dollars) so I
can get an idea of the expences I would incur for attending next year?

All my money was spent on transportation and food (didn't buy any LEGO,
and someone offered me lodging).  Transportation (plane
ticket+train+metro) was about $185, and I spent about $20 on lunches and
dinners.

...I meant to ask you, "was it worth it?" Its one thing when us older FOls • drop $200+ on a
weekend. it hurts, but we can recover, but for the 18-22 crowd, $200 • represents several
months of saving effort.

...A 'variation' on that question is 'did you get your money's worth?" And I • want honesty
from people here! Course, the fest itself was free, but things like airfare • and hotel
rooms can add up (and unfortunately, there are no real cheap hotels in that • area, tho it
will be something we look for next time). And its not even counting driving • costs for
those who drove here (Charleston SC, Boone, NC, New Jersey, Philadelphia... • we had drivers
from several hours in all directions.)  I'm sure everyone would want it to be • a bit
cheaper for themselves, but that's a different question :-)

...relatedly, knowing what you know now, how much would you have been happy • to pay to get
in? (the place we had this time was free, and free was an important • consideration for us,
but if we want more flexibility in the future we will have to consider • somewhere we have
to pay for (and in turn, attendees will have to pay for)).

...You can email responses if you don't want to say some things in public • forums :-)
Honesty is important for these things.

Well, I had a great time there!  It was great just to even be in the same room
with the folks at the fest.  I live about 3 1/2 hours away from DC and I
stayed at someone's house pretty near the whole get together so my travelling
and accomodation expenses were next to nothing.  I spent maybe $15 on food for
the weekend, seriously.  The fest was free to get in, so that wasn't so
bad...  Oh! And $110 went to The Store, of course... =)  The fest was a
success I think, in that people from as far away as Chicago came, spent all
that money to come down, and still had a great time.  We got to see and do so
many different things it was incredible!

Here are some of the highlights for me-
-Meeting the great bunch of people who were there and who share the same love
of LEGO that I do.
-The two different stop motion LEGO animation shows/seminars.
-Being part of the Pirate Game and taking over for Colin and Wanda's original
players after they had to leave.
-Seeing what people could come up with in the K-8 building room, like Bram's
10 foot tall radio tower thing.
-Actually seeing a LEGO train in person. =)
-Getting compliments on my creations from people who's work far outshines mine.
-Lindsay's pirate crew sharing a group hug, ARRRR!
-The Technic Super Car display.
-The Castle room, which had better be packed full next year! =)
-Frank's 10,000 pirate ships (maybe I was seeing double)  =)
-Pretty much everything else. =)

I'd like to have seen some Mindstorms things, the LDraw presentation, and more
Brickwars games, three things I know absolutely nothing about, but maybe next
year. =)  The feeding frenzy at The Store was a highlight to some, not to me
though... I did like the excitement of it all and I just about got so caught
up in it that I almost bought some ZNAP (I wasn't thinking clearly) =).  The
organization was kinda loose and there were different things going on at the
same time that I wanted to see, but nothing to really complain about.  All in
all, one of the best times I've had in a long, long time. =)  I would pay if I
had to next year, it would be so worth it.
