What is NELUG's rule reguarding visitors? I saw no statement about this on
the NELUG website. This is what I understand Shiri to be requesting, to be
a guest at one meeting in order to say goodbye to her local Lego community -
a closure of sorts. She did not request membership.
Must one be 18 to be a visitor/guest? Could a child be brought to a
meeting by a parent who is not a NELUG member? Or can one only be a
"invited" guest of a "sponsoring" NELUG member? If this is the case, can
only individuals 18 and older be invited?
I have been very dismayed to see the reponse of NELUG to Shiri's request to
visit. While Shiri Dori is not a member of NELUG, she is a warm,
enthusiastic, creative, member of LUGNET that you are fortunate enough to
have in your geographic area - and she is leaving this country. You had
the opportunity to be kind, to say goodbye and wish a fellow LUGNET member
well in her journey. When this simple request was made, why did not a
single member of your organization step up and ask Shiri to come as their
guest to this one meeting?
I have thought of LUGNET as a friendly, warm, community building place. A
place that brings those of us together who enjoy and indeed have a passion
for Lego. Because of the knowledge of the members of NELUG and their
generosity of spirit in sharing this knowledge via personal websites and
LUGNET, I have had a great respect for the NELUG membership.
Yes, who is able to be a member of or a visitor to NELUG is your business.
But ... you have had the opportunity to show kindness and a different kind
of generosity of spirit (without making an exception to any stated rule)
and in my opinion chose not to.

| (...) This is a good question. What is our policy on guests? Could we start a policy for guests where the guest has to be invited by a member who is also attending the function. This member would then be responsible for that guest. By having this (...) (23 years ago, 28-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
