From the Nov. 2000 Fortean Times (a true bastion of responsible journalism):
"TONGUE-TWISTER: A referendum has been held over changing the name of Lake
Chargoggagogmanchauggogoggchaubunagungamaugg, near Boston, after people got fed
up trying to pronounce it. It was given the name by Native Americans.
D.Express, 5 July 2000."
I figure they're speaking of the same Lake Chargoggagogmanchaug-
gogoggchaubunagungamaugg and not some other Chargoggagogmanchaug-
gogoggchaubunagungamaugg located nearby.
Any word on what they're changing it to?
Dave!
