Jumping into this late... The town of Glouchester MA is also pronounced
Gloss-ter.

That must be confusing, because Gloucester, MA is pronounced "gloss-ter" as
well.

:D

Gawd, these Mass-ACHU!!-setts (1) names are confusing in general <grin>...

Massachusetts really isn't that hard a name to remember how to spell.  It is
spelt just like it sounds just as many Native American names are (at least in
New England).  Granted its a long name but not real difficult.

I
don't see why they don't just name it Glosster, if that's how they're gonna
pronounce it...

While we're on it, them British might as well have spelled Boston "Baw-
stun"... ;-)

Well being from New England we just got stuck (I mean that in a kind way) with
a lot of British names for our cities and towns.  So we blame them.  I actually
like giving people directions to Worcester.  Half the time people get lost
because they are looking for Wooster or Woosta or something else entirely.
Heck even I double take sometimes when I see Worcester on a sign.
