Are you sure you're not just mis-hearing the natives?  My dad grew up in Oxford
(we still have a house up there in my family) and he refers to Webter as
"webstah".  It should be noted that my father doesn't really bear that bad of a
Mass accent, either.

And for those wondering what it means, it means: "You fish on your side of the
lake, I'll fish on mine, and nobody fishes in the middle" (yes I'm serious).
