Kylie Minogue. One half of an Australian singing/acting dynasty.
Her sister is Danii, and comprises the other half.
Kylie (Australian Aboriginal for boomerang!) made her fame in
a trashy, yet enormously popular daily soap opera called
"Neighbours." Was often rumoured to have had a relationship
with her on-screen boyfriend, Jason Donovan(1). She had left the
soap to launch her pop-music career. She had enjoyed enormous
success, especially in Britain, as the launch ironically
corresponded with her appearance in the aforementioned soap
(broadcasts were 18 months behind Australia). She had a string
of hits, a few number ones, and then disappeared into relative
obscurity. Many a pubescent boy's fantasy woman, apparantly.
She was, at least until her 2? year relationship with Michael
Hutchence of INXS, the squeeky-clean, girl-next-door type.
Occassional new albums never achieve the sales and popularity
of her earlier successes, despite a raunchier style, influenced
during her relationship with Hutchence. Her acting could best
be described as arboreal, though some of her songs were, IMO,
quite good. I am sure that a web search would yield many
results, with pictures, mp3's, etc. Surprisingly, she does not
have an alt.fan.* newsgroup.
Her sister, Danii, also appeared in an Australian soap opera,
"Home and Away." Though apparantly better than "Neighbours,"
this soap never achieved the popularity of "Neighbours." Danii
also launched a pop career, but never had the same level of
success as her more famous sibling. She is currently enjoying
a career as a presenter of a teen-targeted pop music magazine.
(No doubt her revitalised popularity is due to her recent
breast augmentation surgery).
(1) Jason Donovan. Launched a pop career also, but didn't
really get anywhere. Enjoyed notoriety for suing the British
weekly magazine, "Punch," for accusing him of being gay, and
won. The settlement was far too much for the paper to afford,
so he assumed ownership instead. He was also the star of the
re-released, "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat,"
when it ran on the London stage.
