Here's a query to test your Lego knowledge.

I'm curious about the trellis fences. The ones I mean are the ones
with a 1 x 4 base. They have a trellis fence style (think that's the right
word - diagonal criss-crossed pattern).

There's one that's 2 basic
bricks high with the fence in the middle of the brick, common in the early
70s, but doesn't seem to have been used much recently. My only ones at
the moment are red ones from 4554 Metro Station. There's also a lower
one, one basic brick high, with the fence along one edge of the brick.
I think this one was introduced a bit later. The aquanauts/hydronauts
used black ones of these quite a bit, though not for fences.

What colours have these fences been produced in? I remember having
quite a few red ones of both types and white ones of the higher brick
when I was a kiddie in the 70s, though I can't remember what sets they
came from. Did Lego ever do blue or yellow ones? (or black ones of the
high fence)?

(...) I think you'll find they were both around in the seventies. For example the 381 Police Station from 1979 has both types in yellow. My own first set (now gone to the great parents' jumble sale in the sky), the 370 Police Headquarters (1972), (...) (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) Red, White, and Yellow; that I know of. The second type (lattice along edge, 1 height) came in Black, Blue, Grey, Pink, Red, White, and Yellow; to my knowledge. Dark Grey is a good candidate for either, though I don't have any to cite right (...) (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

I have a Swiss Villa ((URL) has five (5) white pieces of lattice fence. I also have a whole bunch of red lattice fence from a supplement pack from the mid 70's. Haven't seen it in any other color. Mike - mike_walsh@mentorg.com (URL) Robinson wrote (...) (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

Hi Simon, Yes, to all of your questions, tall fences also came/come in white, yellow, blue, black and of course red. I think the short fences also come in these colors as well. There are also red 1x4 gates from the 70's that have basically 1x2 high (...) (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)

(...) I have yellow, white and pink (Paradisa) in the high ones, and yellow, white, pink and black in the low ones. I sure wish they still produced the white ones, which are far more use as fences than any of the others. I also have 4 gates which (...) (26 years ago, 23-Feb-99, to lugnet.general)
