What? Superheroed? Huh? Maybe you're thinking of the ones that were released
in the late 80's. The earlier Joes were pretty good, but I'll admit the
figures got pretty silly later on.

tiny GI JOE
figures, instead of the 12-inch, sturdy, fully articulated, GI JOE figures.

The 3 3/4" Figures were very nearly as articulated as the 12 inch figures.
And they were plenty sturdy, Their only vulnerable point was the rubber band
inside their waist, but I only ever had one figure break.

With all the cool gear - the space capsule, and safari jeep, etc, etc.

With all the cool gear... heck, I can't even name it all. Check this out:

Here's the first Accessory Pack (of which there were several) that you could
get to outfit your figures with extra weaponry and backpacks

And then the vehicles...

In my opinion, the vehicles were pretty good until about 1986, when some of
the silly ones like the HAVOC started appearing. Still, the Tomahawk
helicopter from that year was pretty cool. Unfortunately, the ratio of
decent vehicles to silly vehicles slowly overturned during the next few
years.

Sure, the Kung Fu grip thing was stupid -- a couple months after your
birthday, you wound up with a fingerless GI JOE.  But at least you had a
toy you could *play* with, instead of just setting up like chessmen.

I didn't seem to have any trouble playing with mine. If you like the big
Barbie-sized figures, there's a toy line out right now called "Ultimate
Soldier" and you can even several large, extremely expensive vehicles for
them.

The small size made the 3 3/4" Joes inexpensive, so I could get a new figure
every couple weeks just by saving up my allowance and doing extra chores.
More figures, more badguys to save the world from. Even the vehicles weren't
too much, so on birthdays or Christmas, I could potentially receive several
vehicles for my Joes to cruise around in.

Hey, did YOUR Joes have an Aircraft Carrier?

(...) The Ultimate Soldier brand looks pretty impressive. I don't know how their quality is, but their figures and accessories look good, especially the vehicles, just a couple months ago, my TRU had a Ultimate Soldier Bradley box on the floor and (...)
