Good analysis. The jig probably would be a lot simpler than, say, the jig
for assembling monorail motors, but it would need a jig, nonetheless.
Brad has said LD doesn't have the brief to get molds made at this juncture.
That doesn't in my view rule it out at some point in the future. But this is
here and now. We were asked how we felt about sets with parts substitutions
where older parts were not available,
(http://news.lugnet.com/lego/direct/?n=3462)
and my read of the discussion which ensued was that a number of people (but
not all) were OK with it, preferring to get a set that met the spirit if not
the exact part for part duplicate.
That begs the question of whether this particular substitution is so bad
(assuming that the rumors are true, after all, someone found some pics on
the site, that doesn't PROVE that this is the set we are getting although it
is likely) that it may or may not have been better to wait to reintroduce
this one until LD DID hold the brief to get molds made. I haven't decided,
myself, yet. What if it never does? Would we be worse off having never got
this set, even imperfect? I dunno.
