Hi Peter,
My contact at lego in Sydney told me this three months ago and I passed it on to
people on rtl and lugnet at the time, of course, no-one believed me, they said it
couldn't happen in the US.
I've been getting bulk lego from Sydney for two years now, up till 3 months ago.
Then all of sudden staff were to busy to send me anything that wasn't part of the
official parts pack selection. Even some of those packs have sold out and my
contact tells me that stock is not being reordered from Denmark.
There is a definite policy change in our country at least, if not the rest of the
world. I for one have been buying up big on all packs that I think I might need in
the future.
I had seen a glimmer of hope when my contact said that all spares stock from New
Zealand was being transferred to Australia, but Sydney recently changed there mind
saying it was not worth the freight and import duty costs to move and would be
sold off in NZ.
It hasn't helped that they have cut customer service staff from four full-timers
to two full-timer and a part-timer in the Sydney.
I can't think of a bright side to all of this.
More bad news is that Lego has little control over pricing, in that when our
wonderful GST comes into affect, don't hold your breath for the price of lego to
drop by 12.5% to a 10% sales tax level.
