This just blows me away. I seriously can't tell the new light grey from • the old
light grey without scrutinizing closely for a moment. I can't possibly • imagine
that it would in any way lessen the look of a Classic Space set.

I too am blown away that you would have such trouble seeing the difference
between these colors.  I received a batch of parts from a BL seller and
there happened to be one out of 50 that was the new color.  That one part
stood out so much that a friend of mine, that knows nothing about Lego or
the color change, asked me what was wrong with that part.  Take another look
at the new and old parts together, they are VERY different.

From a collector's standpoint, I guess I understand. You want something
*exactly* as it was? Sure, I understand that. But if you're after the
collectability anyway, why not go for an original set? I mean, you're • saying
you'd be OK with a Legend that changed the *PIECES* but *NOT* with one • that had
a barely noticeable color change? I just can't get over that assertion,
especially considering the minorness of the change in light grey. I mean,
imagine what's worse-- A new-grey Galaxy Explorer, or an old-grey Galaxy
Explorer with new motorcycle helmets, hollow-stud minifig heads and 2x2x2 • cones,
flattened 1x2 plates w/ handlebars, 4x4x2 cones with axle holes, and new
wheels?

I am most certainly not a collector.  I build with the parts I buy.  Problem
is that the new colors make things built with a combination of new and old
colors look very bad.  I am really suprised that you would think otherwise.

And if you're after the model, because you think it's a cool one, then I
seriously have to ask you, do you really honestly care? As Larry pointed • out,
the model would still look good, even if they changed the color • *completely*. I
mean, what if they changed it to black or yellow or something? The model • *still*
looks good.

The model itself still looks cool, but the coordination of the colors does
not.  the new grey makes the existing colors look bad in my opinion.  I
thought maybe it would be limited to just the old grey and brown, but it
most certainly is not.

The only reason NOT to buy this set is if you're a parts-monger. If you're • after
more light grey/dark grey/brown to match your existing collection, because • you
want to integrate the pieces into it, well fine, I understand. But then • you
don't have much more right to complain about this model than any other • model
Lego produces with the new colors.

I am definitely a "parts-monger".  Better than 90% of the sets I buy are for
the parts.  Since coming out of my Dark Age, two and a half years ago, I
have bought over 1500 new sets.   Out of those I haven't built more than 50
by the instuctions.

I primarily build with the grey colors as most things I build are space or
castle related.  I do not have a use for the new colors as they look bad
with my existing parts.  Thus a set that contains them is not useful unless
it is free.  Last time I checked Lego is most certainly NOT free.

I'm in total shock. Will you be buying anything from Lego that has any of • the
new colors in it, ever? If you say no, I guess I can't argue. Obviously if
that's the case, a color change means enough to you to boycott Lego • permanently.
But if you say yes, then I have to ask: why? Why buy some other new set • with the
new colors, but not this one?

No I will not be buying any set that contains the new colors.  I don't like
them and I don't have any use for them.  Not to mention I have no intention
of supporting a company that could choose to make changes such as this just
to save a few bucks.  And before you ask, YES, I think this change was
driven by money and nothing more.  This is not something anyone will ever
know for sure, but a company in dire financial straights only makes changes
to save money and improve the bottom line.  I would bet it is cheaper to
make these new colors and thus is saves money.

I agree I'd like to see them change it back-- mostly because I seriously • don't
understand the reasoning behind making the change in the first place • (since it,
even at Jake's admission, seriously will be unnoticeable to their primary • target
audience, and will only affect AFOL sales negatively). I still have those
sneaking suspicions that it's somehow cheaper to manufacture or something. • But
it makes me sad to think that some people are so blindingly enraged that • they'd
stop buying new sets altogether.

I would not call myself "enraged", disgusted is a much better word.  I have
been struggling to understand how anyone could look at a new color and
release it when it does not coordinate with their existing products.
Unfortunately no matter how long I ponder this I can not find any reason for
it other than money.  If Lego is having money problems, the answer is most
certainly not to reduce the quality of your products.  This color change, in
my opinion, is a HUGE reduction in quality plain and simple.

I have to admit that since I stopped buying sets I have a lot more money!
Thanks Lego!  :|

(...) Together, yes, I can tell. Takes a second, but I can tell. It's not overly hard. Put them together on a MOC? if they're on a flat surface, side by side, then, yes, you can see that something's slightly off. Put them together on the same MOC a (...) (...) Wow, I'm totally amazed. I feel completely the opposite. If a piece isn't available, like the spruce tree in Main Street, that slightly decreases the value of the "Legend" quality. Not so much to deter me from being happy with it or buying the (...) (21 years ago, 7-May-04, to lugnet.general, lugnet.lego)
