I would have to agree. You can certainly editorialise or write for
entertainment value if you choose, but I think when you start using the word
"review", you have undertaken an obligation to structure your article in a
certain way. Honest journalism implies certain things about a "review".
Paramount is that the review is based on actual experience, not
conjecture... and a very close second is that your article clearly label
what is factual (the dimensions are thus and such) and clearly label what is
opinion.
Else you do your readers a disservice. Unless of course those readers have
no expectations of truth whatever, which I would say is a bad expectation to
set.
There is much to condemn in a Jack Stone set, I suspect. But to do a proper
job of it you are going to have to hold your nose and actually acquire one
somehow in order to examine it closely and discuss it. Note that I didn't
say "buy"... TLC may well be persuaded to give you one gratis if your site
is a legitimate review site... (stranger things *have* happened). Perhaps
you could borrow one from a mundane who didn't know better? Or something.
But a review without factual basis isn't a review, it's a diatribe. Entirely
different animal.
