Speculation on minifig reproduction:
In the minifig world, there are adult and child figures (of the same size).
There are also miscellaneous minifig pieces floating around in the ether
(i.e. various boxes, bins, etc).
Like all particles, these minifig pieces collide randomly as the pieces are
swished around by giants searching for various parts.
Usually, these collisions yield no change.
However, sometimes a mutation occurs. Sometimes an adult minifig is split
into minifig pieces.
Other times, If the energy of a particular collision is high enough, minifig
pieces can even be bonded back together. Often this produces some sort of
hidious conglomeration which is quickly found and destroyed by the roving
giants.
Other times, the collision yields a new, and unique minifig. The ruling
giants find this minifig, and noting that it is new and unique, the giants
place the minifig into a LEGO landscape and a new figure is born!
