can't you just add:

6 c x y z a b c d e f g h i x' y' z' xxxxx.dat

where 6: x, y, and z are the position of the initial copy of the
subpart/primitive (abcdefghi are the orientation),

7 x y z a b c d e f g h i x'' y'' z'' xxxxx.dat

and 7: x, y, and z are the final position (same thing w/final
orientation), and x', y', z' is one point pertinent to the curve,
x'' y'', z'' is another!

The problem with this approach is that there are many ways to draw a
curve from one point to another, even given the angles at the end
points.

The user may have some preferences, for example that there should be a
clip connected to the hose at some point or that the hose should bend
in a specific way because there are some objects in the path.

here's one solution: linetype 6 can be used multiple times in a row, with the
x, y, and z set to where the curve must pass through, and the orientation to
what the tube must look like in that position.

hey, it *MIGHT* work.

another, MUCH easier way would be to use THREE new linetypes:
6, for the beginning orientation + position [same format]
7, for the beginning of any changes in angle/position during the curve itself
(to avoid intersecting something else, for instance)
8, for the end of that point,
and 9, for the final position + orientation

7 could also be used as a line-must-pass-through-here-in-this-direction kind of
thing, and 8 would be omitted

any better?
