What if they slip past Terry, not being noted as "mockups" and it takes
someone a long time to notices that they're incorrect?

IMO, perfection an LDRAW do not mix.

Does that imply that carelessness and LDRAW do mix?

Two decimal points?
Rounding errors?

Precision/decimal accuracy are one thing -- that's dealing with someone
knowing what the right thing is to do, but consciously rounding it off by an
acceptable amount.

What we're talking about here is someone carelessly modeling something without
the actual element in hand -- that's not roundoff, but pure guessing.  And
guessing Wrong.

It's one thing to omit detail -- it's quite another thing for a measurement to
be off by 4 LDU when it could just as well be right on target.

16 colors with _dithering_?

A platform-specific rendering method.  The ultimate scope of LDRAW .DAT files
is far more sophisticated than that, yes?

Type 5 lines that may or may not appear at some angles?

(over my head)

Final output of less than a megapixel?

Sure, on a screen, on a low-res monitor.  But that's just one of many canvas
technologies that LDRAW models can be rendered onto.  Heck, I'll bet LDLITE
could even output resolution-independent images using NZWR fills.  Imagine one
of Sproat's huge models printed out on an E-size large-format digital printer?

(...) I'm sure this happens all the time. A lot of the current LDraw elements are wrong, in some way. Some examples, from the top of my head: - The teeth of the Technic gear cogs are too wide. In real life, the width is 10 LDU, but on the LDraw cogs (...) (25 years ago, 26-Feb-99, to lugnet.cad.dev)
