I found your post very interesting, and you proposed some nice ideas of MOCs.
I really liked the idea of laser propelled vessel (a bit like the space
elevator project)
But, after all, this is science fiction, right? That makes one
relatively free
to invent *almost* any technobabble one can think of. That's the fiction part.
But I do think that it is much more cool to be able to create something that's
not (too much) fiction, that is actually achievable with present-day
echnology, or just a little more (e.g. an matter/antimatter reactor).

Yes, well I agree with Joel.  Thanks Brian, I found your post most
interesting, most of what you mentioned I was aware of, but some of it was
a little foreign to me, thanks for opening my eyes.

Anyway, I do think you made a good point that this is fiction, and we can
do whatever the hell we want.  sometimes those limitations we place on
ourselves seem harsh but Reality, bah, that's a Beast I do not want to fight

I think some of the best parts of building a MOC and all it's greebles is
to look at it once completed and determine what
bits/sections/areas/components etc...  do what.  try to make sure that
there are enough engines/life support/fuel/weapons/power etc... as you MOC
needs.

Thanks for the post
