For a pure Lego solution, you could try rigging up something with a rotation
sensor that would have the sensor point in the direction of the collision.
Suppose the rotation sensor was mounted with it's input shaft pointing
up vertically - with a nice large wheel on the top. Now imagine a peg
inserted somewhere on the outside of the wheel - this could be pushed
by each of the bumpers...well, you get the idea I'm sure.
Ironically, this would tell you the direction of the most recent collision,
but wouldn't tell you when a collision had occurred....still with two
sensors, you could get pretty accurate SINGLE collision data.
All hope is lost if you hit a corner or something.

| There was discussion of one company that made switches with analog values that could be mixed, but they were apparently either expensive or hard to find (at least there was some difficulty). But simple resistor network, say a load resistor to ground (...) (21 years ago, 16-Dec-03, to lugnet.robotics)
