It was early 1998. I had a nice collection of LEGO models assembled, including
Adventueres, Extreme Team, Aquaraiders, and my beautiful
Metro Station I'm not sure what happened. I was eleven, and
perhaps I took the box too literally and decided I'd had my time and it was
time to pack up. I wanted to spend my money on stupid, quick fads. I saved
the instruction books, thinking that I could rebuild any set I wanted despite
the fact that thousands of parts were dumped in the same big tub. I never did
rebuild my Metro Station.
Fortunately, this only lasted for a year. Well, a little more. Fall 1999. I
was saved by a Happy Meal. The race car with Grimmace (and purple slopes!). I
played with it for a really long time, and decided to get more LEGO. My first
real post-Dark Age set was the little Adventuer thing with the car and the
spider temple (Spider's Secret, it was called), which I chose because I could
afford it, and it had lots of elements I didn't already own. I lost its
instructions though. I didn't get any Star wars until fall 2000, but its
probably my favourite theme now.
