  A review of 8539 (Manas)

These things work with the RCX! Up to three units (6 motors total)will work! Wow!!! Here's the RCX code! (URL) received the new 8539 (Manas) in the mail yesterday. I have not built the models. But I have taken the receiver unit to pieces and (...) (23 years ago, 30-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Friday - Disaster, Saturday - Good Times

(...) Well I haven't done any building for 48 hours... It's a much needed break, and I'll start up again tonight! Still gotta "hammer out" the mountain. (...) Hey Robin, don't be so hard on yourself. Friday *was* a horrible day - took me 1.5 hrs to (...) (23 years ago, 30-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) Don't worry about it Dean - what we've got planned will wow the crowd already. Besides, you've worked wonders with the existing sensors. Yeah maybe for the next show we could think about adding that part in... -Bryan (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) If we are to pull off the station 9 3/4 part as well we will need: 1. Motor switcher for the Switch Track 2. Reed sensor in the building like the other one 3. Light Sensor and light combo for main track 4. Wires 5. RCX Brick 6. Program I don't (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Friday - Disaster, Saturday - Good Times

(...) My message vanished... Damn it... Robin, that's NOT funny. People have spent a lot of time, effort & money on their items. You shouldn't be joking around like that. You upset two people for sure... Dean (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) I don't. I just have the switch. Can anyone make one? If it's manual you don't have to worry about motor stalls and what not and the switch is modified. And yes, the switching would isolate the siding and stop the train. (...) I thought his (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  Re: A couple of notes

(...) Well one thing Alex did was to convert most (if not all) of the outside baseplates into 32x32s in the hopes of reducing the likelihood of "flipping." Will that suffice? Do we need to attach the inside baseplates? -Bryan (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) Oh if it's an RCX you need, I've got one myself... Version 1.0. If you want me to bring it Dean, let me know! -Bryan (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  A couple of notes

I do have a few thoughts about the layout that I'll throw up here. Dean, you mentioned extra speakers for your "multimedia presentation". Do you have those ready to use? Do they require power? We could probably just put them under the table there, (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Friday - Disaster, Saturday - Good Times

Well, now that I've almost recovered from the last couple of days, I'm finally ready to post. First of all, I think the layout looks awesome, and will be very well received. You guys have all done so much excellent work. Paul has been such an (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) Ya, that would be cool! We'll just have to do it manually. Do you have another little motorized "switching house"? I know you have the right point already ;-). We could forget the RCX and just have a remote control for the switch, which would (...) (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: A great addition would be...

(...) Huh? I don't quite understand your message, Dean. Don't we already have Hogwarts Express stopping at its station, then driving off? Or are you talking about something totally different? -Bryan (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

  A great addition would be...

I'd LOVE to be able to build a RCX controlled section that brings in theHogwarts and stops it at it's station but I just don't have enough bricks or other parts for that. Too bad non of the other Mindstorms members are helping out... Dean (23 years ago, 28-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)

Re: Reed sensors are not working very well (or too well?)

(...) Our widest trains are 8 studs wide right? So that puts it to the end of the track. I'll make a little building with the switch recessed.   Re: Reed sensors are not working very well (or too well?)

(...) I had the sensor in the center of the track on the bottom. Didn't work too well. I've since asked that it be moved to the side where it can be triggered via the side. I'll be doing testing today on that. Dean (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc, lugnet.trains)

Re: Reed sensors are not working very well (or too well?)
