Ya, that would be cool!  We'll just have to do it manually.  Do you
have another little motorized "switching house"?  I know you have the
right point already ;-).  We could forget the RCX and just have a
remote control for the switch, which would send the train into its
siding.  If we quickly switched it back just after the last car was
in, would it not isolate the siding and park the train?  Better than
nothing.

I don't. I just have the switch. Can anyone make one? If it's manual you
don't have to worry about motor stalls and what not and the switch is
modified. And yes, the switching would isolate the siding and stop the
train.

As far as getting some other help.  you guys have the phone numbers
for the rest of our not-so-vocal members.  Call them up.  Mark (I
think is his name), the robotics guy, is probably coming to the show.
I'm making a T-shirt for him, which he's already paid me for, so he's
definitely interested.  Call him, and see if he can spare an RCX for a
weekend.  You can set up the program with all your stuff, and just
drop his RCX in there.

I thought his name was Frank?

It's not just the RCX. I could use my SCOUT if I had to. The difficulty is
the wire, the sensors (another light and REED sensor) and all the
supporting goodies for it. I'm not going to have time to pull that off. On
the plus side, the RCX's can talk to each other, so if RCX2 saw the second
train at the other end of the layout it could signal to the Hogwarts to
leave. Thus making things more productive.

Maybe for the next show I can pull it off. I don't think I can do it for
this show... Plus the Scout doesn't have external power and has to run of
batteries.

(...) Don't worry about it Dean - what we've got planned will wow the crowd already. Besides, you've worked wonders with the existing sensors. Yeah maybe for the next show we could think about adding that part in... -Bryan (23 years ago, 29-Jul-01, to lugnet.org.ca.vlc)
