Well, someone has to pay for the US-only support programs (Event
packets, LEGO Brick Masters, etc), the seemingly omnipresent commercials
on American TVs and to make the prices in America competitive with
Megablokes.
So they _have_ to rip us off (not only in the UK, but all over here in
Europe) to feed the US market moloch.
It propably comes down to "Good Thinking(TM)" as it was used in
the-other-issue-that-shall-not-be-named.
