Why? It's TLC's responsibility to make a go of it. I, the consumer, owe the
maker of a luxury-goods commodity absolutely nothing. I, as a fan, am more than
happy to financially support the company if I feel that the price is right...if,
in other words, I see a good deal. If those employed by Lego wish to continue
their livelihood in that respect, then the onus is on them to offer a quality
product at a competitive price. I am not engaging in corporate welfare out of
some manipulative sense of guilt. I deeply love Lego, but I'd also deeply love
to buy a house, get a better car, take a couple of nice vacations every year, be
debt-free, make some investments, errrrr...put my money to better use than
bucking up a desparate company. Sure, if I owned stock, I'd have an incentive
to buy retail always. Side-note: I do in fact buy a lot (maybe even most) of my
Lego at retail price, but only when I perceive a reasonable value for the money.
I bought, for example, the X-Wing, Imperial Shutle and Snowspeeder at MSRP
because I felt that they were already of significant value such that waiting for
a discount would not be absolutely warranted. I did not, I assure you, purchase
Mos Espa or Cyberslam at MSRP. Plain and simple, it's TLC's fault when the
consuming public as a whole does not purchase their product at MSRP; it's the
company's fault, without exception, for failing to be market-competitive.

| John, your whole post was excellent. I really think that we ought to see more "Dear Lego" posts with constructive ideas like these and less kvetching. We've got to understand that TLC is saying that the crisis is that kids aren't buying Lego sets (...) (24 years ago, 6-Feb-01, to lugnet.dear-lego)
