Really? I mean, I'm not trying to say your MOC's are somehow any less valuable,
but I personally have seen enough of them such that they don't really interest
me anymore. It'd be a shame if you genuinely want me NOT to check out your
MOC's.

Its too bad for you. You are missing so many things here it is not funny.
Sometimes it is the small things in life that carry the most surprise.
Its a shame you take so many people for granted.

It's a shame, but there it is nonetheless. I don't check out every Bionicle MOC
either. Or every Fabuland one (not that there's many of those!). Sure, I checked
'em out when I had never seen them before, but now I just don't get as much out
of them, so I don't pay as much attention. People often get tired of various
things, and that's just the way it goes. And some things people never get tired
of. Your mechs ARE cool, and clearly you're not tired of building them. And also
clearly others find them totally awesome. But personally, I don't get much out
of them anymore. But don't let that stop you from building more.

I hate to say it, but I found the same to be true of Bob Carney's castles.
They're totally awesome models, but after looking at a dozen or so, they
were lots more of the same as far as I was concerned. But hey, it's his
niche. And Eric's niche seems to be the Sophie-Mech. All similar in style,
but each equally cool.

Thanks, was that a stretch for you?

No-- but my sarcasm meter seems to be beeping.

Probably won't look at future Sophie-Mech's?
Your loss.
Only an idiot would continue to build and not evolve.
I struggle each time I build to make my Mecha differnt from eachother.
Each one is something the last one is not, or could not be.
Don't mistake style for a lack of originality.

Eh, it's more about the level of variety, I guess. I mean, again, seriously,
there's no need to appease my tastes or anyone else's if you're happy with what
you're doing. But for me, the mechs just aren't different enough for me to want
to look closer.

Things like the center grey mech in this picture:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Legomaster/Exhibits/4of5/4of5------.jpg
Or the two-headed Draconix:
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Legomaster/Draconix/1draconix-1.jpg
Or the Mecha bay:

Or the queen fleeb:

Very different. Stuff like that gets me to say "Neat! I haven't seen anything
like THAT before, I'll check it out!" But Sophie-Style human-proportion
large-scale mechs? I've seen 'em. Maybe if I were building something similar of
my own I'd check them out for ideas and reference. But meanwhile, I personally
just glance at it and move on to the next MOC.

Attention I get? I only get a small handfull of regulars that reply to my
posts. People whom I have come to enjoy. The majority of people just look and
offer no feedback. Issues like this chase them away. It really sucks. The
view counts on Brickshelf tell a whole different story.

That's true-- I rarely go by number of replies. In the old days of Lugnet and
RTL that was often a good measure, but since then people have been less inclined
to (and encouraged not to) post "ooo, cool!" messages that create noise. Hit
counts are far better measures. You'd never know it from looking at the models
on my site, or the feedback on Lugnet, but my most popular model is my little
10-minute Trogdor MOC, which easily gets 1000 hits more every month than my
AT-AT (which got loads of raves on Lugnet and FBTB when it came out)

Maybe one of these days I'll explain to you why I do what I do. Maybe gthen
you'll be more open minded. Or you'll just have to wait for my Documentry. It
is in progress.

Neat! See, now THAT's different :) It's not every day you get to see a
documentry on Lego builders. Is it destined for airing?

Btw, You sir are so darned opinionated. I both respect that and find it
annoying as heck. Respect it, because you have an interesting head on your
shoulders. Annoying because, opinions are like ********'s everyone has one.

Sorry to have sounded so insulting, I guess. No offense intended. Basically
Adrian's post just got me thinking about MOC's that I used to find so
mind-bogglingly awesome that are now so much more commonplace. I remember seeing
our large Endor display at MindFest '99 and thinking how utterly cool it was to
have Star Wars MOC's from at least 6 well-known Lego SW fans. And how everyone
gawked at it for a good hour or so, because we had never seen the likes of a
Lego display that large.

But now? I've been to ... what, 4 BrickFests, god-knows-how-many train shows,
LUG meetings galore, and seen MOC's online from around the globe. So have many
of us. If I saw that same MindFest display now, I'd probably say "Oh, that's
cool I guess," and moved right on.
