Ya know Eric, this is a really cool bot, but for you its the same old same
old. Different fingers, different eyes, different color, but still the same
nonetheless. Youve perfected the Sophie-Style bot, why not try something
new?
|
I tend to agree with Adrian. This is old hat for you by now.
|
I cant disagree more, I can see the new.
There is no doubt that there is a lot in common with your other works. But I
see lots of minute improvements. And I see the tech improvements. The tech
is tighter, the visible gears arent showing the whole story. I can see the
geardown throughout. Its the same principles applied in a different way and
incorporated into a design.
|
Im talking about the designs and the style, not the gearing technology, which I
dont particularly understand (nor really care about, honestly).
|
Bottom line, if this is what challenges and makes you happy to build Eric, do
so. If you want to continue to share these creations, then do so. Change your
style when you feel the need to do so. Grow at your own pace.
|
Judging by Erics reply to me(1), I really dont think Eric cares one iota about
my opinion. But being an artist, speaking to an artist, I am bound to give my
honest critical opinion. I do not shy away from saying what I think, and if
that is construed as me trying to stop Eric from building or not share his
creations, then I am prepared for the misunderstanding.
Growth at your own pace sounds nice, but is not always the best perscription.
Had I continue to grow at my own pace, I would have never progressed from
this to
this. It was only
through the honest criticism of my peers that I was able to improve myself.
If Eric wants to ignore my opinion (and Im sure he does), then he has every
right to do so. But if Eric wants to continue to really grow as an artist, and
not just stagnate, then he should be listening to honest criticism that doesnt
just praise every effort as perfection.
For myself, it is the person who thinks my art is not very good that I pay the
most attention to, ask questions of, and inspires me to get better.
