I don't know what the ratios are as to who uses the web vs. nntp

I don't use the NNTP interface, but isn't the first message in each
group it's charter? So if your newsreader supports it, you could just
look at the first message, and see the charter?

I honestly can't remember if this is true or not once the charter got
revised... LUGNET in general has a policy that posts never are modified,
ever, but I forget if that policy applies to charters.

I *thought* BST has had charter revisions but I could be misremembering. As
an experiment I used this search string against BST

http://news.lugnet.com/market/buy-sell-trade/?q=CHARTER/PURPOSE&s=r

and only one charter post came up.

Can someone try this test on a newsgroup they are certain had charter
revisions? (or maybe someone that knows for sure can answer)

If post #1 always gets modified when there is a charter revision instead of
a new charter post getting put into the group, then going to post #1 is a
surefire way.

If not, it isn't, and absent a search it may be hard to tell if the charter
has changed or not.

Also, if you're trying to look up the charter, I don't think it's a
terrible thing to say you should look where it's posted, on the group
web page. It's not something you need to do often, so I don't think it's
a terrible thing to ask. Just like the posting setup is a web page, and
you can't do that over NNTP either.

I agree.

++Lar (note that whether a post gets highlighted or not has no bearing on
whether it was posted in the right place or not, other than that it may be
getting more highlights than it normally would have because it artificially
appeared in the spotlight for a while, as all announce posts do)
