How do you follow the threads across groups?  What newsreader do you use?

Netscape Communicator 4.5 handles it pretty well.

What do you do when you're in the .cad.dat group and you want to see if
there are any followups yet to the post you're reading?

I open up .cad in a new window.

When you do find a model in the .cad.dat group that you want to view, do you
have a way to view it right from your newsreader or do you go to the web
interface to view it?

Good point.  If I want instant gratification, I use the Web interface.  Can
you implement a way to make the messages with DAT content stand out on the
Web interface?

I'm working toward
getting discussions (all across the board at LUGNET) as closely coupled with
and linked to data as possible -- physically, metaphysically, logically,
metalogically, mentally, psychologically, sociopsycologically, umm,
foofoologically, umm, metaüberpharmacobiologically, etc.  :-)

Now say that 9 times fast, Todd.  :-P

My main attraction to separating the data from the discussion is the ease of
finding the data.  If you can do that, I wouldn't see any problem with
inviting both within the same ng.

If there could be a "DAT file only" virtual ng
to reflect just the models posted, well then...
In step-by-step detail, how would you use a group like this if it existed?
Give examples using a couple or three representative entry scenarios...

Not a clue.  :-,

I'm thinking that the safest & quickest (at runtime) approach will be to embed a special header into the NNTP article stream just as it's being injected by the newsserver (similar to the way the default Followup-To field is automatically (...)
