Wow...very impressive model there! It combines the great looks of the Model
Team series with the functionality of Technic to create an outstanding
fusion of the two...great work! The website is also very informative and
well-constructed...

Probably just by being a bit of a headcase. One thing that does keep me
going is that I usually have a very strong mental image of the final
result I would like to achieve, and I am also not averse to leaving the
project for a while and coming back to it if I am stuck. For example,
when making the telescopic boom section of this truck I ran out of ideas
how to solve it, so I went off and did some other stuff including
building the Power Puller, and the sled on this provided the inspiration
needed.

I actually never start building an model at all until I have an exact idea
of what it should look like and how all the functions should operate. What I
do is draw sketches of each of the sub-assemblies, outer framework,
gear-trains, etc. (usually during some boring lecture in school :-) ) and
when I have all the ideas completed, I start building the actual unit. This
basically keeps me from cancelling a project due to lack of ideas.

At the end of the day there is just too much soul put into these models
to think about breaking them down... the cost of the components compared
to the effort put into building them is miniscule.

Yes that's true; a Lego creation is a work of art...although I do tend to
break down my models after several months (maybe longer, depending on how
much time and effort I put into them) since I usually end up using up most
of the useful elements which I need for building other creations. If only
one could get an infinite supply of parts! :-)

(...) I remember this being debated here recently, where some thought Lego models were and thought not. I tend to think that some are, in that so much of the resultant quality of a creation based on something real stems very much on the (...) (24 years ago, 3-May-01, to lugnet.technic)

Hi Tobbe, (...) Funny, but there may be some truth in this - you know these problems you come across that require days or even weeks of thought to solve, and then the solution just seems to pop into your head in an instant? I suppose in a mental way (...) (24 years ago, 2-May-01, to lugnet.technic)
