Still no large technic beams in bulk. Did anyone notice that in the latest catalog not one technic set fetures regular technic bricks. They all have the angle bricks. Also what happened to functions in technic sets? Yeah yeah I know if you want (...) (25 years ago, 10-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Dude! I was going to post the same question but can't find the directions now. I have that set and the instruction sheet. I live in the States though. One other solution I forgot, that I have used with some success for Mindstorms: Make your device smart, so that it keeps track of its own backlash and compensates for it. I made a device that did this. It would keep track of an estimate of how (...) (25 years ago, 9-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Try to measure the quantity you are interested in as directly as possible. If you have to count rotations do it at the output of the gear train not the input. For a given quality of gear (TLC's gears are certainly not AGMA 10s !) you have to strike (...) (25 years ago, 9-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

The plastic wheels work well when you cannot use a clutch gear or pulley belt to protect a motor from excessive resistance. If you working on a Mindstorms project, then measure your position as close to the output of your gear train as possible. This will eliminate the effect of backlash on your positioning. However if the gear train is expected to hold the final (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Jerry, Precise positioning is my objective. And of course too much friction is a problem. I have'nt fooled around with this too much but, the LEGO gears, as designed, have too much backlash for my project (and as you suggest probably to keep the (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

Chris, it depends on your point of view. As backlash gets less and less, gear train friction gets more and more. The friction is somewhat between the gears but mostly in the shaft bearings where additional force comes to bear. Unless you need (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.technic)

They were used as masts in 314 and 315, two of the old ships-series. They were also used in the old Model-team: the Harley and the Norton (393 & 394) feature a few as axles, footrests and antenna. I wasn't able to find anything that works really well here; the only way I was able to do it at all was to further gear down a gear-reduction motor, and (...) Oh yes, you're right. I remember that there is at least one "Technic Axle 5.5 With Stop" (URL) the ZNAP set: "3571 Blackmobile with Motor" (URL) may be in others as well. Yesterday I saw boxes of 8008, the Technic Stormtrooper, at the nearby TRU. I bought one, and when I opened the box, surpringly I found not a Stormtrooper, but a 8007 C-3P0 inside. No matter. (...) Yes, these are hollow 1 piece ABS wheels (32146). They first appeared last year in the 3057 Create 'n' Race set. I suspect the reason that they are in the 8241 set is cost. Well as part of my "must get at least one of every Slizer" obsession :) I have gotten at least one of every roborider and I must say that my dad likes them better than me. Funny thing, I got them both at our TRU here in Binghamton NY today err yesterday now :). They were switched and still had the original seals. All parts, papers, ads, everything was there but they were switched. PS they had Cameraman from movie (...) Maybe this has come up but......Seems like TLC is cheaping out in the new Technics stuff. The 8241 Battle Cars has PLASTIC wheels that look like the standard rubber tire/plastic hub found in earlier kits (30.4x14 size). It is NOT obvious looking at (...)
